Artisan Techniques

WHAT IS SOUTACHE?

SOUTACHE EMBROIDERY is a aged embroidery technique, which was initially used for making decorative elements sewn on clothes. Name comes from french ‘soutache’, which means braid used to decorate cut fabric.

Today, artists and designers are using this method in making jewelry, belts and handbags. Soutache braids can be connected with gemstones, minerals, silver, crystals, glass and different beads. Using this method, amazing accessories can be made which are full of glamour and color, and has a regal royal presence. This kind of jewelry, although it has long history, became popular in the nineties through Israeli artist Dori Csengeri.

Care

General Jewelry Care

  • Sweat, water (showering, swimming and handwashing), perfumes/lotions, and cleaning products can cause deterioration or discoloration. Avoid wearing our jewelry anywhere it may get wet, or be exposed to extreme heat or humidity. Also keep in mind that perfumes or lotions can affect the finish of our jewelry.
  • Store your jewelry somewhere safe and dry, away from direct sunlight – try keeping it in a plastic or cloth bag. Even better? Separating each piece into its own bag to ensure they don’t brush or scratch against each other.
  • It’s always a good idea to clean your jewelry of oils and dirt it has collected throughout the day. A soft cloth or cotton ball will gently rub off oils, dust, and dirt, or try a small amount of a mild, non-abrasive cleaner if it needs a boost in shine.
